MY EDUCATION

My recent education

I have an MA in psychology. Having this qualification I can confidently diagnose myself as being addicted to learning. I satisfy my cravings by taking online classes. My life has been transformed by MOOCs. Here are some recent classes I have taken.

Autumn 2013

Stanford University

Callback Me Maybe - Contemporary JavaScript (CS 99SI)

Currently auditing this class (in person), to see if I can keep up with the kids. (Answer: barely).

Summer 2013

Stanford University

A Crash Course in Creativity

I really enjoyed this, and did all the excercises. This was a MOOC, but different to others I had taken before as I joined a team at work. Here's a couple of fun assignments: I designed the cover of my autobiography, and my chindogu Prezi.

Spring 2013

Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas

Introduction to Infographics and Data Visualization

This MOOC got me into data viz, for which i learned D3 and CoffeeScript. My final project is basically a copy of Mike Bostock's wonderful NYT viz for the convention speeches. My version is a bubblecloud of the most frequently-used words in the last statements of prisoners executed in Texas.

Autumn 2012

Stanford University

HCI: Human Computer Interaction.

My first MOOC. Really good introduction to UX techniques I hadn't used before. I storyboarded, prototyped, and built the framework for an application called Keep Calm and Do your Homework, which I developed to help kids with ADHD (and their moms!) complete their daily homework.
